2007-08-17: Metronome (Origin)
primates
Consider this a closed-loop time travel version of the anthropic principle.
This comic is in the following storylines:
- Variations
A long-running series, maybe the crux of the site. Reader submits a suggestion, and I draw three comics based on that suggestion. Originally all three had to start the same, but it evolved. - Summer of Keith
Good old Keith! I used his suggestions, and only his suggestions, for comics all summer long. It was a pretty nice summer.
This comic includes the contribution:
- Keith Prestwich suggested: Dr. Quickly invents a metronome that beats in reverse
Text transcript
<<Throughout the comic a steady "kot kit">> Dr Quickly: I have invented a metronome that beats in reverse!! Rabid: What good is that? It sounds kind of awful... Host: Aren't you hungry? Rabid's Ancestor: That noise is unrelenting! Can't you hear it? It ruins my appetite ALL THE TIME. Medieval Nursemaid: Well, little one, our ancient legends tell us it is the heartbeat of the planet we live on. Cave Rabid: Rarr! I hunt by the beat of the world drum! The rhythm guides me true. Primate Rabid: Noise... noise is... PATTERN!! Other Primate: PATTERN! WHAT IS PATTERN!! Another Primate: NOISE IS HOOT! [[The universe begins.]]
