2006-04-10: Escape Phrase 31
Incompleteness
I had a lot of trouble thinking of a comic for today. I mean, I know where this is going -- I know what has to happen by next friday (the end of the chapter) and the story overall, but it was just really tough figuring out what to do here.
I do like the brushed ink, though.
This comic is in the storyline:
- Escape Phrase
This was intended to be a 24-hour comic but my hand hurt too much twelve pages in. And then it turned into a crazy experimental study of the interaction between form and content in the comics medium.
Text transcript
[[Tsamantha finds Jimothy in a coffee-bar.]] Tsamantha: No, it turns out all his classes have been cancelled. ... Jim? Jimothy: Oh, sorry, I was just thinking about this dream I had last night. I could take my hand right off! Right off. I was the Marquis, you see. Tsamantha: Uh, which one? Jimothy: I don't know. But some people were putting on a play about my life, and I was offended. So I flew down to the theatre to give the actor DARING to portray me a talking-to. Jimothy: The ticket counter girl immediately recognized me. And she smiled this wonderful smile, like seeing me arrive at the theatre was the best thing she had ever seen. It was beautiful! Jimothy: I confronted the actor, who wept with shame when I removed my hand without any stage props or tricks. My name was safe, the play would not go on. Tsamantha: ... So anyway, his house burned down a couple days ago, which is also the last time anyone saw him. Jimothy: Who? Tsamantha: Jim! Focus!
