You probably aren't aware of what you want most of all. If your brain let you remember whatever secret desire it is that has the strongest hold on you, don't you think you'd already be thinking about it all the time?
So it's probably good that we can't remember things like that so easily. Especially since some of them probably date back to predifferentiating baby-brain.
