2006-01-30: Escape Phrase 1
Exciting changes
Welcome to "Escape Phrase", an ongoing story. So far what I have of it is the remnants of an attempted 24 hour comic (my hand seized up is why it's not done; please consider this when you're looking at the art!), but it's going to go on. If you like it.
There are a couple things to point out:
This isn't the same Jimothy as in my earlier "Testing Jimothy" comics, but it is the same actor. (I think I'm Osamu Tezuka!)
Narrative-wise, I'm mostly influenced by the excellent Bruno, although it's going to be a science fiction horror story. Every page is either a competely different scene arrived at in media res, or there are more panels than the previous page. Occasionally I switch scenes on a single page, but I'm trying to avoid that. (There is one exception, sort of, but it isn't. You'll see...)
Enjoy!
This comic is in the storyline:
- Escape Phrase
This was intended to be a 24-hour comic but my hand hurt too much twelve pages in. And then it turned into a crazy experimental study of the interaction between form and content in the comics medium.
Text transcript
<<LOUD MUSIC>> <<LOUD LOUD MUSIC>> Jimothy: Sigh. Tsamantha: Hey, Jim! Jimothy: Tsam! I... hello! Gosh! Tsamantha: Can I sit down? I'm sitting down. Jimothy: Um! Tsamantha: So you're not up dancing? You should dance! It is HEALTHFUL! Jimothy: I... no way. That's a terrible idea. No dancing. Tsamantha: What if you went to dance... WITH ME?! Jimothy: Gulp!
